Skills for Energy Conference - BEEMS

For the BEEMS project team it had a very tangible impact on people’s learning – regarding the generic energy industry training and skills needs and trends; increasing understanding of training facilities and training processes and the human resource practices that determine supply and demand for workforces.

The visit to SCIRA was incredibly fascinating : the Sherringham Shoal SCIRA business model owned 50/50 by Norwegian STATOIL and STATKRAFT; the impeccable culture of excellence and learning organisation approach; meticulous insistence on excellence and continuous improvement; superb leadership and organisational design; a comprehensive community benefits package and the way the wind farm and grid connection seemed to have been negotiated sensitively with the local community; and most interestingly, the ‘real-time’ live webcams and satellite monitoring of vessel activity and marine-based workforce, which we all found fascinating.

The visit to Lowestoft College saw us experience the marine environmental survival training pool; wind farm tower; ‘the bridge’ vessel simulator; and offshore safety management simulation training room.
