The Solent Partners hosted a highly-interactive and informative three-day action-packed series of visits to MRE small and medium-sized enterprises to examine characteristics and good practice in the development of the MRE supply-chain. The group of staff from Brittany, Upper Normandy, Lower Normandy Regions plus east of England were on location at Southampton City College and the Studio School, Warsash Maritime Academy, Vestas R&D facility, Sustainable Marine Energy Ltd on the Isle of Wight and Highbury College, while being welcomed by Southampton City Council, Isle of Wight Council and Portsmouth City Council respectively where follow-up meetings took place.
The group held productive seminars, discussions and reached agreements about joint Anglo-French accreditation and sharing of course objectives and outcomes in maritime training and marine renewable energy, engineering competences that would enable flexible career paths for people entering the industry as young people or moving within the energy or engineering sector into MRE specifically. We also made fruitful progress with discussing possible pupil and teachers exchanges, curriculum development and staff development colllaboration in the context of the BEEMS project, as well as exploring the early stages of the BEEMS MRE procurement portal.
